Mainers Fall on Wrong Side of Pitchers Dual

Sanford Mainers News Release
After dropping the first two games of the season, the Sanford Mainers looked to come back against the Laconia Muskrat's Saturday night in hopes to get the first win of the 2012 NECBL season.
This quest has further been postponed as a pitchers dual between both teams ended in the favor of the Muskrats 1-0.
After being 2-hit by the North Adams SteepleCats on Thursday, the Muskrats, more specifically Kyle Mullen, were able to hold the Mainers to only 3 hits in tonight's game.
Jason Inghram took the hill for the Mainers, and despite recording the loss, pitched a solid 5.2 innings, giving up 3 hits and allowing the only run of the game. Inghram left the top of the 6th with 9 strikeouts, however at one point was perfectly matched up with Laconia's starting pitcher, Mullen as both would have exactly the same stat line during the game.
The Muskrats would come to bat in the third inning and be the first to occupy the hit column with a double by Ethan Bennett, but after a fielder's choice, the chance of Bennett scoring became history.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Mainers would see their first baserunner as Anthony Hajjar drew a walk, but would soon end his team's chances of scoring in the inning when Muskrat's catcher, Bennett, would snap-throw to first and pick-off Hajjar.
The Mainers first hit would come in the fifth inning, after a walk by Nate LaPoite, right fielder Matt Weckerle would single to left, but that would be all the damage the Mainers would be able to produce.
The only run of the game would come in the top of the sixth. Nick Camastro doubled and later reached third on a throwing error by LaPointe. With John Polonius at the plate for the Muskrats, Inghram would have to be careful as Polonius had 4 RBI against the Mainers the night before. Polonius continued that total, hitting a single to bring in Camastro.
The score would stay the same for the rest of the game, however the Muskrats would load the bases in the top of the ninth, but Matt Horan would come in to retire Tim Swatek to end the chances of more Muskrat runs.
Nic Manuppelli would come in to close out the game for the Muskrats, retiring the first two Mainers he faced very quickly, but would give up a 2 out single to Jordan Betts. The single was no threat to Manuppelli as he would go on to strike out Hajjar to end the game.
The Mainers will travel to New Bedford to play an afternoon game against the Bay Sox. Game time will be at 2pm with EJ Ashworth looking to bring in the first victory for this Mainers squad.
