Chris Marrero Rehabs Tonight in Potomac

(WOODBRIDGE, VA) - The Washington Nationals have announced that 1B Chris Marrero will start a rehab assignment with Potomac tonight. He is set to start Game 1 of tonight's doubleheader for the Nationals against the Salem Red Sox beginning at 6:05 PM at Pfitzner Stadium.

Last night in Hagerstown, Marrero went 1-for-3 with a double starting as the DH for the Suns.

Currently on the Washington 60-Day DL, Marrero has been recovering from a torn hamstring he suffered during winter ball as he attempted to stretch for a ball at first base. It is not known how long his rehab will be with Potomac.

Marrero, 23, was the 15th overall selection in the first round by the Washington Nationals in 2006. He played in a combined 250 games with Potomac from 2007-09. In 2009, Marrero hit .287 with 16 home runs and 65 runs batted in en route to earning a spot on the Carolina League post-season All-Star team. He appeared in 31 games with the Washington Nationals last season hitting .248 with ten runs batted in. Marrero has a career .285 batting average in 620 minor league contests with 83 home runs.

Marrero becomes the fourth Washington National to rehab with Potomac. He joins RHP Chien-Ming Wang, 1B/OF Michael Morse and RHP Brad Lidge who have all put on Potomac uniforms this year and are all currently active with Washington.
