Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 2, 2012) - One night after pounding out 17 hits, the Daytona Cubs clubbed 16 more hits on Saturday on their way to a 10-5 win over the Fort Myers Miracle at Hammond Stadium.

The Miracle lost their third game in a row despite belting 13 hits of their own and getting a 4 for 5 performance from Oswaldo Arcia, who homered and came a triple shy of the cycle.

The Cubs tagged Miracle starter and all-star Pat Dean for 13 hits, a season high against a Miracle pitcher, and scored five of their six runs against Dean with two outs.

Daytona collected four straight hits off of Dean in the third innings to take a 3-1 lead. Three of the hits were RBI singles by Greg Rohan, Rubi Silva and Taylor Davis.

The Cubs were at it again in the sixth with two outs when Arismendy Alcantara belted an RBI triple and Nelson Perez followed with a single that scored Alcantara to make it 6-1.

Dean finished the sixth inning and took the loss to fall to 4-3.

Fort Myers started a comeback in the seventh. Arcia delivered an RBI single and Josmil Pinto drove Arcia in with another single to make it 6-3.

However, Miracle reliever Ricky Bowen ran into trouble in the eighth. The Cubs loaded the bases against the other Miracle pitching all-star and Alcantara smacked a ground rule double to score two and make it 8-3. Nelson Perez added a couple more runs with a two-run single to make it 10-3.

Arcia blasted his sixth home run of the season with two outs in the ninth and Levi Michael knocked an RBI single to make it 10-5, but the Miracle rally ended when Michael Gonzales flew out to right to end the game.

The Miracle (21-33) and Cubs (23-30) continue their four-game series at Hammond Stadium on Sunday at 1:05 p.m.

Join the "Voice of the Miracle" Brice Zimmerman and Adam MacDonald for the broadcast beginning at 12:45 p.m. on miraclebaseball.com.
