Brevard County Manatees News Release
VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees held on to win the first game of Saturday night's doubleheader against the Bradenton Maruaders, by the score of 4-3 at Space Coast Stadium. The Marauders scored two in the seventh and had the tying run on second, but their rally was thwarted.
Manatees (22-31) starting pitcher Taylor Jungmann had allowed just one run in six innings before entering the seventh in hopes of a seven-inning complete game. After getting the first out, he hit Carlos Paulino with a pitch and he then advanced to second on defensive indifference. Dan Grovatt then flied out to left for the second out.
With a runner on second and two outs, Jungmann walked Gift Ngoepe and then his night was done. Casey Medlen inherited the runners and allowed them to score on a double to left by Andy Vasquez, which cut Brevard's lead to one and put the tying run in scoring position.
Medlen was able to shut the door on the Marauders (24-30), by striking out Mel Rojas to earn his eighth save of the season. Jungmann (4-4, 4.02) allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings of work, while allowing seven hits. He walked two and struck out four.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the second, the 'Tees tied it up in the bottom of the inning as Mike Walker led the frame off with a double and was then brought home on a RBI single by Shea Vucinich.
The Manatees took a 4-1 lead in the fourth as Cody Hawn, Parker Berberet and Scott Krieger hit three consecutive doubles. Krieger's double plated Hawn and Berberet while Krieger scored on a RBI single by Franklin Romero Jr.
Bradenton's Jameson Taillon - the second overall pick of the 2010 draft - threw a six-inning complete game, but was saddled with his fifth loss of the season.
