Andrelton Simmons Named Southern League Hitter of the Week

Pearl, MS - On Tuesday, Andrelton Simmons was named the Southern League Hitter of the Week from May 21 to May 27. Simmons is the second Mississippi Braves' player to be honored with the title for the 2012 season.

Simmons was acquired by the Braves in the 2nd Round of the 2010 Draft out of Western Oklahoma State JC. Since being drafted, he has spent one year with the Danville Braves, and then was promoted to High-A Lynchburg for the 2011 season.

Since the 2012 Opening Day, Simmons has been with AA-Mississippi and is batting .299 with three homeruns and 21 RBIs. However, from May 21-27 his average for the week soared to .417 when he went 10-for-24 in six games with three doubles, three homeruns, and sent eight batters home.

Currently, Simmons is ranked as the ninth best batter in the Southern League.
