Jackson Homers Past Wahoos, Wins Third Straight

JACKSON, TENN. (MAY 29, 2012) - The Jackson Generals claimed their second win over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (24-28) on Tuesday night by the score of 4-2. The victory extends Jackson's winning streak to three games and extends their lead over the Huntsville Stars in the Southern League North Division to 2 1/2 games. Jackson, now 31-21, matching a season best 10 games above .500 mark.

Pensacola scored in the first inning off an RBI double by Brodie Greene. The Generals answered right back in the bottom of the first with 2 runs on three hits.Francisco Martinez began the inning with a double to left and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Denny Almonte. Joe Dunigan reached second on a line drive to center and was driven home by a Jesus Sucre single.

Jackson scored two more runs in the game, both thanks to solo home runs off RHP J.C. Sulbaran (3-4, 4.58). Chih-Hsien Chiang hit his first Jackson home run in the 4th inning. Kalian Sams followed up in the 6th inning with his 4th homer of the year. Sams ended the night with 3 hits, the only multi-hit night for Jackson.

LHP Steve Garrison (3-1, 3.00) pitched 6 innings, giving up seven hits, two runs, two walks, and striking out two. Yoervis Medina was credited with his third hold of the year. Stephen Hensley earned his second save of the year after striking out all three Pensacola batters in the ninth.

The Generals (31-21) will play game three of the five-game series with Blue Wahoos on Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. RHP Taylor Stanton will take the mound for Jackson after being activated from Advanced-A High Desert on Tuesday.
