Harrisburg Senators News Release

On a sweltering Sunday afternoon at Metro Bank Park, the Harrisburg Senators erased a three-run deficit to defeat the Reading Phillies by a score of 6-5. Jesus Valdez, who had gone without a home-run for nearly the first two months of the season, blasted two on the afternoon, and also had the go-ahead RBI-double in the 8th inning in the win for the Sens.

Harrisburg fell behind in the fourth, when starting pitcher Jeff Mandel allowed a two-run double to Reading catcher Steve Lerud. After Valdez homered in the bottom half of the inning, and again in the 6th to tie the game at 2-2, Reading answered in the 7th. This time Cesar Hernandez hit a three-run triple to chase Mandel from the game, while putting the R-Phils ahead 5-2.

That lead didn't last long for Reading. With Reading starting pitcher Trevor May still in the game into the 7th, Harrisburg received back-to-back one out singles from Manny Mayorson and Stephen King. Reading proceeded to go to their bullpen, calling on RH J.C. Ramirez.

On Ramirez's first offering of the afternoon, Beau Seabury greeted him by hitting a game-tying three-run home-run. It was Seabury's first home run as a Senator.

In the eighth inning with Harrisburg now facing Reading RH Lisalberto Bonilla, Jose Lozada worked a lead-off, and represented the go-ahead run with Valdez stepping to the plate. Valdez then drove Lozada home, hitting a double down the left-field line to give the Sens their first lead of the day.

Leading by a run in the ninth, the Sens went to Hector Nelo to attempt to close the game. Nelo worked around a lead-off single by Reading's Tug Hulett, and recorded his fourth save of the season by striking out Brandon Tripp to end the game.

The series finale between the clubs comes Monday evening, with a special 6:00 p.m. first-pitch. Harrisburg will look for the series win by sending LH Danny Rosenbaum to the mound against RH David Buchannan of Reading. The game can be heard locally beginning at 5:40 p.m. with the Senators Pre-Game Show on 1460am WTKT, or either by listening through the Senators website or through the iHeart Radio mobile application.
