Opportunistic Baysox Take Second Straight over Curve

BOWIE, Md. - Like they did one night prior, the Bowie Baysox utilized a big bottom half of the second inning to earn their second straight win over the Curve in a 4-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Prince George's Stadium.
For the third time in as many games in this series, the Curve grabbed the initial lead on Sunday via a Tony Sanchez RBI double in the top of the first inning, but Bowie evened things on this day with a run of their own in the bottom of the first. One inning later, Baysox catcher Allan de San Miguel blasted a two-run homer out to left field off Curve starter Matt McSwain, and Bowie added another run in the inning to claim a 4-1 lead.
McSwain (2-2) settled in after the second, relinquishing just one more hit and giving his bullpen an admirable seven innings of rest, tossing 110 pitches, 62 for strikes, over his longest outing of 2012. The right-hander was making his fourth spot start of the season to get the Curve's rotation realigned after a Wednesday doubleheader at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
Baysox starter Bobby Bundy was cruising through the fourth when, following a groundout by Anthony Norman, he summoned his trainer and coaching staff from the dugout and departed with an apparent injury after just three and two-thirds. In his place, Chris Petrini took over to carry Bowie through the seventh and earn the win. Petrini (3-1) allowed a run on a Brock Holt two-out RBI single in the fifth to cut the Baysox lead to 4-2 but scattered four total hits and struck out four while not walking a man in three and a third.
Though the Baysox put only two hits on the board after the second, the Curve couldn't draw any closer. Altoona went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position but left seven men on base in the loss. Greg Burke (S, 9) got the final two outs of the ninth inning for his second save in as many days.
This series concludes Monday with a Memorial Day affair under the sun at Prince George's Stadium. The Curve send righty Phil Irwin (0-2, 5.19) to the mound in search of a series split opposite Bowie's Oliver Drake (0-1, 2.25) with first pitch for the finale set for 2:05. Airtime on ESPN 1430 and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 1:35.
