York Revolution News Release
Chris Cody was brilliant for the second straight start, but the York Revolution lost to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 2-1 in front of 5,344 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Saturday evening. The Revs will look to finish the homestand strong with the Sunday finale at 5 p.m.
Cody and Blue Crabs starter Nick Green each took shutouts into the eighth inning, and were each charged with just one run in seven-plus innings of work.
Cody walked only one for the second straight start, and has now combined to allow just two runs in 13.2 innings over his last two outings. Of his 21 outs on Saturday night, 15 came on ground balls.
The lefty worked out of first-and-third trouble in the seventh inning, and perhaps his lone mistake came on a leadoff single to Mike Daniel in the eighth, the final batter he faced.
Reliever Adam Thomas' first pitch hit Paco Figueroa, as the Blue Crabs quickly had their first two runners on in the eighth inning. After a sacrifice bunt by David Espinosa, the Revs intentionally walked Chin-Lung Hu to load the bases. Brian Barton made them pay, however, fisting a jam-shot two-run single into right, scoring both Daniel and Figueroa to give Southern Maryland the 2-0 lead.
Green carried a three-hit shutout through seven and had not allowed a runner to reach scoring position before Travis Scott led off the home eighth with a double to deep left-center, the only extra-base hit of the night. Scott later scored as Ramon Castro singled to left off reliever Charlie Manning, bringing the Revs within 2-1. Michael Hernandez singled with two outs pushing the tying run into scoring position, but closer Jim Ed Warden came on to strike out Chris Nowak ending the threat.
Bobby Kielty led off the bottom of the ninth with a first-pitch single immediately putting the tying run on base. James Shanks then dropped down a sacrifice bunt, advancing Kielty to second. But Warden recorded the final two outs, stranding the tying run at second base for the second straight inning to end the game.
Green (3-1) earned the win, allowing just one run on four hits in seven-plus innings, while Cody (1-5) suffered the loss despite his great effort.
Green is now 2-0 against York in two starts this season, allowing just one run on nine hits in 14 innings head-to-head, and pitching shutout ball through seven full innings in both starts. He has now allowed two earned runs or fewer in six of his seven total starts for the season.
The Revs will look to claim a four-game series win in Sunday's finale, as Jesus Sanchez (1-2, 6.14) faces Matthew Vasquez (2-1, 4.58) at 5 p.m. It is Bark in the Park, as one well-mannered dog per ticket is admitted FREE. There is also a Pregame Full Team Autograph Session and Catch on the Field presented by Runkle's Notary & Insurance, with postgame Kids Run the Bases.
