Earthquakes to Host Fort Lauderdale Strikers in Third-Round U.S. Open Cup Match

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes will host the Fort Lauderdale Strikers on Tuesday, May 29 at Stanford's Cagan Stadium in the third round of the 99th edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The Strikers defeated the Fresno Fuego 7-2 Tuesday night to earn a trip to California. Fort Lauderdale plays in the North American Soccer League (NASL), the second tier of professional soccer in the United States. Eight games into the 2012 season, the Strikers (2-3-3, 9 pts.) are fifth in their league.

Match tickets are $10 for current Earthquakes season ticket holders and $15 for the public. All seating is general admission. Fans can purchase tickets at Cagan Stadium on day of game. Advanced purchase is available at the club's headquarters at 451 El Camino Real, Suite 220 in Santa Clara, on www.sjearthquakes.com or by calling 408-556-7700. Season ticket holders should call or email their fan relations representative to buy tickets.

The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest annual team tournament in American sports, dating back to 1914. The single-elimination competition began Tuesday and continues until the final on Aug. 7 or 8. The field includes teams from seven junctures of American soccer, including MLS, NASL, USL Pro, PDL, NPSL, USASA and US Club Soccer.
