Round Rock Express News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - Former Round Rock outfielder Doug Deeds smacked two doubles and drove in five runs as the Express fell to Salt Lake 9-6 in Friday night's Pacific Coast League series finale at Spring Mobile Ballpark. The Bees (18-18) took three of four against the E-Train (17-19) who lost for the third straight night.
Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Bees busted out their third big inning of the series. Efren Navarro began by singling to right field. Luis Jiminez followed with a double and Ryan Langerhans walked to load the bases. Deeds then doubled to clear the bases to make it 6-4 Bees. Paul McAnulty and Alberto Rosario added RBI singles as well to extend the lead to 9-4.
Brad Mills (3-2) earned the win for Salt Lake. He lasted six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits and five walks and struck out two.
Tyler Tufts (2-1) picked up the loss for the Express. He allowed six runs on six hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning. Michael Kirkman started the game for the Express. He went five innings and allowed three runs on three hits and four walks and struck out five.
The Express struck first in the top of the first inning with back-to-back two-out doubles by Yangervis Solarte and Joey Butler to make it 1-0. However, Deeds and the Bees answered in the second. Kirkman walked Jiminez and Langerhans to begin the inning. Then Deeds swatted a double to deep center field to score both runners. Two batters later Andrew Romine singled to drive home Deeds to give the Bees a 3-1 lead.
The Express fought back with two runs in the third and another in the fourth to take their second lead of the game, but Deeds and the Bees bats were too much. He finished the game 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, five RBI and a pair of runs.
Joey Butler paced the E-Train bats for the fourth straight game. He had multi-hit outings in all four games of the series and finished 11-for-15 with his three additional hits tonight. Mike Bianucci had two hits and two RBI thanks to an eighth inning home run. Matt Kata pitched in with two RBI as well. With his hit in the first inning, Solarte extended his hitting streak to 22 games.
Round Rock begins a four-game series Saturday at Tacoma. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CDT. Left-hander Martin Perez (1-0, 1.50 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express opposite Rainiers right-hander Erasmo Ramirez (0-0, 6.00 ERA).
