Dayton Dragons News Release
Eastlake, Ohio-Steve Selsky's sacrifice fly brought in Juan Silva from third base to break a 4-4 tie in the eighth inning as the Dayton Dragons defeated the Lake County Captains 5-4 on Friday night. Lake County battled back from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game in the seventh before the Dragons regained the lead and held on for the win.
The Dragons took the lead in the fourth inning. Brandon Dailey singled to center field to start the rally and went to second on a hit to right by Junior Arias. A wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third, and Ryan Wright's two-run single under the glove of the shortstop make it 2-0. Three batters later, Kyle Waldrop delivered a two-out, run-scoring single to left to make it 3-0. Dayton added another run in the fifth when Theo Bowe singled, went to third on Dailey's double, and scored on an error to give the Dragons a 4-0 lead.
Lake County started back in the sixth with a single run, then took advantage of two Dragons errors in the seventh to score three more and tie the game at 4-4.
Silva led off the Dayton eighth with a double off the glove of the left fielder. Silva went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Selsky's sacrifice fly to left to give Dayton a 5-4 lead. Reliever Kyle McMyne (3-2) pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth and Brooks Pinckard worked a scoreless ninth for his second save.
Dragons starting pitcher Stalin Gerson worked the first five innings, allowing five hits and no runs with two walks and six strikeouts. He left the game with a 4-0 lead but was not involved in the decision.
The Dragons finished with 10 hits. Waldrop was 3 for 4. Dailey and Wright each had two hits.
The Dragons (14-21) return home to host the Lansing Lugnuts on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field (WONE 980 AM Radio). Daniel Tuttle (1-1, 2.84) will start for Dayton against Lansing's Anthony DeSclafani (2-1, 2.74). The series continues Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Monday and Tuesday's game will start at 7:00 p.m.
