
'Wolves Drop Slugfest at Reading

Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves came out on the short end of a slug-fest on Friday night against the Reading Phillies 9-8 at First Energy Stadium.
The Phillies struck first in the bottom of the first inning against Erie starter Ramon Garcia. Tyson Gillies and Cesar Hernandez each singled putting runners on the corners for Darin Ruf. Ruf singled home Gillies for a 1-0 Phils lead. With one out, Jiwan James slammed a three-run home run to left for a 4-0 Reading advantage.
The SeaWolves cut into the Reading lead in the top of the second against starter Drew Naylor. Jordan Lennerton led off and singled and Ben Guez was hit by a pitch. Tony Plagman stepped in and crushed a three-run home run, his third, over the wall in right making it a 4-3 game.
In the top of the second, Gillies walked with two outs and scored on a Hernandez double making it 5-3.
Erie cut into the lead once again in the third. Brandon Douglas led off with his first triple of the season and he scored on a Lennerton sacrifice fly to center making it 5-4.
In the bottom of the third, the Phillies went back ahead by two at 6-4. Miguel Abreau singled with one out and scored on a Leandro Castro double.
The SeaWolves closed the gap once again in the fourth. Corey Jones singled with one out and moved to third on a Jamie Johnson base knock. Niuman Romero singled home Jones to make it 6-5.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Phillies touched up reliever Patrick Cooper. Castro led off and walked and moved to third on a Troy Hanzawa double. With one out, Hernandez doubled home the baserunners making it 8-5. Hernandez scored on a two-out Sebastian Valle single making it 9-5.
In the top of the seventh, Erie would once again slice the Reading lead down to a run. Douglas and Rob Brantly started the inning with back-to-back singles. With the hit, Brantly extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games. Lennerton followed with a single, scoring Douglas making it 9-6. Ben Guez walked to load the bases for Plagman who lifted a sacrifice fly to right, plating Brantly. Bryan Pounds followed with a walk and with two outs, Johnson walked with the sacks full scoring Lennerton making it a 9-8 game. Erie would get no closer.
Garcia (0-2) took the loss allowing six runs on nine hits with two walks and three strikeouts in five innings of work.
Naylor (1-0) earned the win allowing five runs on seven hits in five innings.
The SeaWolves and Phillies meet in the middle game of the series on Saturday night at First Energy Stadium.6:05 First Pitch. Righty, and former Philles farmhand, Zack Segovia (2-2, 4.55 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Trevor May (5-0, 2.40 ERA).
