Loons Bring More Power in 9-8 Win

May 4, 2012 - Midwest League (MWL) Great Lakes Loons

MIDLAND, MI - The Great Lakes Loons held on to a sizable lead Friday morning at Dow Diamond to win 9-8 over the Lansing Lugnuts, winning the three-game Mitten Series 2-1 before a crowd of 5,055 young Loons fans on School Kids Day.

The Loons connected for 13 hits in Friday's game, starting with six in the second inning to go ahead 4-1. Jesse Bosnik, Jesus Arredondo and newcomer O'Koyea Dickson each found RBI-singles in the frame. Dickson joined the Loons on Thursday after outfielder James Baldwin was placed on the disabled list.

"I'm just excited to be here for this new opportunity to share with these new teammates and new coaches," Dickson said after the game. "These guys made me feel right at home as soon as I came. In the Loons clubhouse, everyone is just having fun and working hard. I look forward to the rest of the season."

Dickson made his Loons debut a little more memorable in the fifth inning by crushing a home run over the right-field wall, scoring two to make it 9-3. In between Dickson's two hits, the Loons tallied up three runs in the third inning with three RBI-singles.

Also making his Loons debut was pitcher Raydel Sanchez. The California-native began the sixth inning with four straight balls and surrendered a single, double and a triple to Lansing batters before being relieved by Jason West. Sanchez finished with four runs charged to his 0.2 outing. West allowed one run in 1.2 innings of work, but Eric Eadington pitched the final 1.2 scoreless frames to net his fourth save of the season. Loons starter Matt Laney fanned six Lugnuts en route to his first win of the year.

Offensively, the last five batters in the Loons order finished with multiple hits, catcher Jan Vazquez leading the way with three.

The Loons (15-13) hit the road Saturday to start an 11-game road trip, traveling to South Bend to begin a three-game series with the Silver Hawks. The Loons will return to Dow Diamond on Wednesday, May 16, to host the West Michigan Whitecaps, the Detroit Tigers Single-A affiliate, at 7:05 p.m.

The Great Lakes Loons are a sixth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and are in the middle of their 5th Anniversary Celebration, which kicked off in August 2011 and will continue throughout the 2012 season. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
