Aaron Meade joins the Kernels from Tempe; Ryan Crowley to Inland Empire

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that LHP Aaron Meade will join the Kernels from Extended Spring Training in Tempe, AZ and that LHP Ryan Crowley has been promoted to Inland Empire of the California League. Mike LaCassa, Minor League Operations Manager for the LA Angels, announced the move on Monday.

The Angels selected Meade, 24, in the 10th round of the 2010 Free Agent Draft out of Missouri State University. He spent 2011 with Orem where he posted a 2-2 record and 5.93 ERA in 20 games (six starts) allowing 53 hits and 35 runs (29 earned) with 24 walks and 48 strikeouts in 44 IP.

Crowley made five starts for the Kernels, posting a 1-1 record and 2.73 ERA. In 26.1 IP, he allowed 25 hits and 11 runs (eight earned) with five walks and 21 strikeouts.

Meade will join the Kernels in Cedar Rapids and be available for Friday's scheduled game with Beloit. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster remains at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with no one currently on the disabled list.

The Kernels wrap up a nine game home stand on Friday night against Beloit. Thursday's suspended game will start at 5:00 pm with the gates opening at 4:00 pm. The first 500 kids through the gates receive a free desktop gumball machine from the LA Angles. The Kernels and Pat McGrath Chevyland will give away three used cars during the second game. And the Kernels will wear special jerseys in game two as part of MDA Night. Those MDA jerseys will be sold via a silent auction during the second game with the proceeds to benefit MDA.
