
Hawks Sweep Away Rattlers with 10-4 Win

SOUTH BEND - The South Bend Silver Hawks (11-8) used a five-run fifth inning to bury the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 10-4 in the final game of a three game series. The Silver swept the Timber Rattlers and wrapped up a 5-1 homestand with a season-best four-game winning streak.
Jesse Darrah turned in six solid innings, allowing just one unearned run on three hits. The right-hander (2-1) walked one and struck out another. David Goforth (2-1) got the loss for Wisconsin, allowing seven earned runs on six hits over 4.2 innings.
Eight of the nine Hawks starters recorded at least one hit - Tom Belza, Gerson Montilla, Matt Helm, and Marc Bourgeois each recorded two hits for South Bend. Bourgeois and Montilla each drove in three runs. The Hawks fell behind 1-0 in the first inning on an RBI single from Ben McMahan. South Bend tied the game a half inning later on an RBI groundout from Montilla and took the lead on an RBI single from Chris Ellison in the third inning.
In the five-run fifth inning, the Hawks drew three walks, recorded four hits and sent 10 men to the plate.
Belza got the scoring started with a bases loaded walk, before Montilla knocked Goforth out of the game with a two-RBI single to centerfield. Helm and Bourgeois followed with RBI singles against the new right-hander Chad Pierce.
Josh Parr went 1-for-3 and singled in a run in the sixth inning.
Bourgeois hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning and leads the Silver Hawks with three home runs. Right-hander Willy Paredes tossed a scoreless seventh inning out of the Hawks bullpen. Keith Hessler worked the eighth and allowed two earned runs on a hit plus two walks. Matt Sample allowed a run on two hits during the ninth inning.
The Silver Hawks are off Wednesday before beginning a six-game road trip on Thursday night in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. EST. J.R. Bradley takes the ball for the Hawks and will be opposed by Kernels right-hander Austin Wood. The Silver Hawks return home on Wednesday May 2 to take on the Bowling Green Hot Rods at 7:05 p.m. EST.
