Bucks Expand Roster to 24

April 24, 2012 - Northwoods League (Northwoods) Waterloo Bucks

Waterloo, IA - The Waterloo Bucks, a member of the Northwoods League, have announced the signing of catcher Richard Gonzalez to their roster for the 2012 season. Gonzalez,a freshman at Alabama State University, is the 24th player to be named to Waterloo's roster for the team's 18th season.

The 5'10", 185-pounder is currently hitting a team-leading .323 for the Hornets with 22 RBI. Starting in 41 of the 42 games he's played, Gonzalez has 22 RBI with seven stolen bases. Last summer, the Cagaus, Puerto Rico native played for the Rockville Express of the Cal Ripken League. Gonzalez hit .213 on the season with eight RBI in 31 games and was named a mid-season All-Star. At the completion of the season, the then high school senior was ranked as the 21st top prospect in the Ripken League by Perfect Game.

Born November 18, 1993, Gonzalez attended the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School where he earned T-Mobile Tournament MVP honors and first team All-Tournament honors as a senior. Richard is the son of Raquel Laporte and Richard Gonzalez.

The Bucks will open the 2012 season at home versus the Rochester Honkers on May 30 at 6:35 pm. Season tickets and single-game tickets are currently on sale. Fans are encouraged to stay in touch with the Bucks in the off-season by utilizing their website at www.waterloobucks.com.
