Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, took down the Frederick Keys Monday, 7-1, behind a masterful pitching performance by starting pitcher Cody Buckel.
Making just his fourth start at Class A-Advanced, Buckel went six and a third innings, allowing only one hit, a triple to Frederick DH Michael Flacco. One batter later Flacco came in to score on a Kipp Schutz groundout. That was the only damage done to Buckel, who struck out eight batters. In four starts and more than 21 innings, Buckel has allowed just seven hits while striking out 29. He earned his second win.
On offense, it was Christian Villanueva stealing the show. The Pelicans third baseman headlined a five-run fourth inning with a three-run homer, his first of the season. The fourth inning saw eight batters come to the plate for Myrtle Beach. Only two reached on hits - Villanueva and an Odubel Herrera single.
The Pelicans continue their four-game series with the Frederick Keys Tuesday at 7:05. Roman Mendez throws for Myrtle Beach. For ticketing information call 843-918-6000 or visit MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
