Frisco RoughRiders News Release
It was a night where the bats all seemed to show up, as Frisco won its ninth game of the year 10-0 Thursday night at Whataburger Field. Steve Buechele's group pounded out 13 hits in the victory, while Barret Loux (3-0) tossed five innings of scoreless one hit baseball.
The "ËRiders got off to a quick start in the top of the first. Following a strikeout by Engel Beltre, and a fly out by Jurickson Profar, Mike Olt walked to give Frisco its first baserunner of the game.
Brad Hawpe advanced Olt to third on a base hit to center, before Jared Prince walked to load the bases. With no place to put Chris McGuiness, Hooks pitcher Jose Cisnerno (1-1 ) grooved a pitch to the "ËRiders first baseman which he drove to right for a double. All three runners scored to give Frisco an early 3-0 lead. Besides putting his team in an early hole, it ended Cisnero's scoreless inning streak at 21.2 innings.
Corpus would have a chance to answer in the top of the first against "ËRiders starter Barret Loux. Austin Wates led off the with a five pitch walk, later advancing to third on a stolen base and a wild pitch. Jonathan Singleton also got aboard via a free pass, but Loux struck out Brandon Barnes to leave two men stranded in scoring position.
In the third, Frisco added to its lead with the top of the order due up. Coming off of a two day respite, Mike Olt roped a laser beam over the left field fence making it 4-0.
Meanwhile, Loux began to settle in. Following a shaky first inning, the former Texas A&M product retired 13 of the next 14 batters he faced; eight of whom went down by strikeout, a season high for Loux.
The RoughRiders added four more runs to put things away in the top of the sixth. For the third contest in a row, Chris McGuiness went deep, making it 5-0. Ryan Strausborger then reached on an error, and moved up to third on a single by Leury Garcia. Looking to break out of his recent funk at the plate, Jose Felix laced a ball to leftfield to clear the bases, before coming around two batters later on an RBI base hit by Jurickson Profar. In total, seven different RoughRiders came to bat in the inning.
The team reached double figures in the eighth. Following base hits by Garcia and Felix, each scored on sacrifice flies to end the scoring at 10-0.
The RoughRiders play game two tomorrow night against the Hooks at Whataburger Field. Jake Brigham (1-0, 1.64) tosses for Frisco, he is opposed by Brett Oberholtzer (0-0, 9.35) for Corpus Christi. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 and can be heard on KKGM 1630 AM or on ridersbaseball.com. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:30.
