Cardinals Shutout Drillers 6-0

April 19, 2012 - Texas League (TL) Springfield Cardinals

Springfield, MO - On the heels of two straight wins down in Texas, the Cardinals returned home to Hammons Field to open up divisional play against the Tulsa Drillers.

Springfield sent righty Trevor Rosenthal to the hill against righty Dan Houston of the Drillers on a picture perfect night in the Ozarks.

After a clean first inning from Rosenthal, the Cardinals jumped out in front in the home half of the inning as Kolten Wong singled, stole second and scored on an RBI double by Xavier Scruggs to grab a 1-0 lead.

Springfield added another run in the 2nd as Greg Garcia and Trevor Rosenthal worked walks before Jose Garcia singled to bring the Cardinals' lead to 2-0.

In the 4th, Tommy Pham led off with a single and Greg Garcia followed by hitting his first Double-A home run to right center to put the Redbirds in front 4-0.

Trevor Rosenthal settled in to a start for the first time this year as he scattered just three hits and struck out six over six shutout innings.

Springfield added two more in the 7th on a Jake Shaffer RBI single and a run coming across on a double play ball to lead 6-0.

That would be more than enough as Eric Fornataro and Justin Wright pitched the games final three innings allowing just two hits to complete the first shutout of the year.

The Redbirds will continue their four-game set with the Drillers tomorrow night at 7:08pm. Michael Blazek will start for Springfield against Patrick Frazier of Tulsa. Friday through Sunday the actual World Series Trophy will be at Hammons Field. Your best chance to get your picture taken with the trophy is at the ballpark! Friday will also be a Friday Night Fireworks night thanks to AM Pyrotechnics. Tickets are available by visiting the Hammons Field Ticket Office, online at springfieldcardinals.com or by calling (417) 863-2143.
