Empire State Yankees Host Opening Day at Frontier Field Tomorrow

April 15, 2012 - International League (IL1)
Rochester Red Wings News Release

ROCHESTER, NY - The Empire State Yankees, who are playing 37 "home" games at Frontier Field while PNC Field in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre undergoes a season-long renovation, tomorrow will host Opening Day at Frontier Field with a 7:05 p.m. game against the Rochester Red Wings. The Yankees will wear their home white pinstripes, while the Red Wings will don their road jerseys. The Wings will still use their first-base dugout.

Tomorrow's pre-game ceremonies will feature traditional Opening Day player introductions along the baselines. Rochester's Mr. Baseball, Joe Altobelli, will throw the Ceremonial First Pitch. The former Red Wings manager, among other off-the-field positions, served as a manager and coach in the Yankees organization in the 1980s.

Every inning during tomorrow's game, fans will have the opportunity to win an autographed baseball from a host of Yankees greats, including Don Baylor, Chris Chambliss, Goose Gossage, Ron Guidry, Jimmy Key, and Luis Tiant. A pair of New York Yankees tickets will also be given away (the date of which to be mutually agreed upon).

Including the Red Wings' traditional 72 home games, Frontier Field will host 109 games overall in 2012. The schedule of Empire State Yankees games at Frontier Field:

April 16-19 Rochester

May 1-4 Rochester

May 7-10 Columbus

May 28-31 Toledo

June 9-11 Louisville
