
Winterhawks Fall 5-4 in Game 4 in Kamloops; Lead Series 3-1

The Portland Winterhawks fell 5-4 in Game 4 of their second round series in Kamloops Wednesday. The Hawks lead the series 3-1, with Game 5 set for Saturday in the Rose Garden at 7 p.m.
The Winterhawks opened the scoring when defenseman Troy Rutkowski scored at the 4:19 mark of the first period, and was quickly followed just 1:02 later by a goal from Derrick Pouliot as they took a 2-0 lead.
Portland extended the lead at the 8:22 mark when Cam Reid scored to make it 3-0, and then made it 4-0 at the 10:58 mark on Pouliot's second goal of the game. Kamloops got one back at the 12:10 mark when JC Lipon scored to make it 4-1, which would stand as the score going into the second period.
The Blazers got the only two goals of the second, as Bronson Maschmeyer and Brandon Herrod scored late in the frame to cut the Hawks' lead to 4-3 going into the third.
Kamloops got the equalizer at the 6:03 mark of the third when Brendan Ranford scored to even the game at 4-4, then took their first lead of the game when Dylan Willick scored 1:34 later to make it 5-4. The Hawks applied pressure throughout the remainder of the third, but couldn't get the tying goal as the game ended 5-4.
Pouliot's two goals marked his first career multi-goal playoff game.
Mac Carruth stopped 29 of the Blazers' 34 shots. Kamloops netminder Cam Lanigan made 27 saves on 31 Portland shots.
