The Week That Was

Wed., Apr. 4, Albany 1 at Worcester 2

Jeff Frazee tied a career-high with 43 saves, but the Devils fell, 2-1, to the Sharks at DCU Center. Frazee made nine saves in the first, 20 in the second and 14 in the third. Offensively, Worcester's Tony Lucia opened the scoring at 5:55 of the second, but Stephen Gionta responded at 18:18 of the same period. The game-winning goal came off the stick of John McCarthy at 12:21 of the third.

The Devils relinquished a third period lead, falling to the Phantoms, 3-2, at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Adirondack was led by three power-play goals, including the game-tying tally by Matthew Ford at 7:06 of the third and the game-winning goal by Denis Hamel at 13:38. Steve Zalewski and Kory Nagy both scored for Albany. In goal, Keith Kinkaid made 29 saves.

Joe Whitney had a pair of goals, but the Devils lost to the Phantoms, 5-3, at the Times Union Center. Whitney's performance was only trumped by Adirondack's Matthew Ford, who registered a hat trick. His third goal was the game-winner, which came at 9:53 of the third period. Steve Zalewski was Albany's other scorer, while Rob Bordson and Mike Testwuide (empty net) also scored for Adirondack.

- The Devils conclude the regular season with three home games this weekend. This season, Albany is 17-11-4-3 at the Times Union Center where 41 of the team's 71 points have been earned.

- Stephen Gionta, who was recalled by the New Jersey Devils on Thursday, netted his first career NHL goal - the game winner - against the Ottawa Senators Saturday in a 4-2 win. Gionta put home a rebound off Alexei Ponikarovsky's backhand attempt at 10:33 of the third period. The sixth-year pro was playing in his 13th career NHL contest.

- Steve Zalewski is one goal away from becoming the 12th Devil in franchise history to reach the 20-goal plateau. He has 19 tallies in 66 games this season.

- Mattias Tedenby registered assists in all three games this past week. For the season, he has 18 points (4g-14a) in 32 games.

- Rookie Joe Whitney increased his team lead to 44 points (15g-29a) thanks to a multi-goal performance Saturday against the Adirondack Phantoms.
