Victoria Royals News Release

Victoria, BC - In a Wednesday night matchup at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, the Victoria Royals faced off against the Kamloops Blazers in Game 4 of their best-of-seven Western Conference Quarterfinal series. In net for the Royals was Keith Hamilton while Kamloops gave the nod to Cole Cheveldave.

Victoria opened the scoring 1:40 into the first frame after a shot from the left circle by Logan Nelson was bobbled by the Blazers' goaltender. The loose puck was corralled by Ben Walker, who buried the puck past an out of position Cheveldave. With a 1-0 lead, Royals' netminder Hamilton slid across the crease on a Blazers' 2-on-1 to rob Brandon Herrod with the right pad. Kamloops would get on the board at 12:13 off the stick of Matt Needham, who skated down the left side of the Royals' zone and fired a hard slap shot under the glove of Hamilton. The game would stand tied 1-1 after 20 minutes of play.

The Blazers took the lead just prior to the five-minute mark of the middle frame when Jordan DePape sent Brendan Ranford alone on a breakaway that saw Ranford snap a low shot under the blocker of Hamilton for a 2-1 advantage. Kamloops extended the differential to two on a high wrist from the left circle by Dylan Willick that sailed over the glove of Hamilton at 13:07. The Blazers carried a 3-1 lead heading into the second intermission.

Entering the final period, Victoria looked to narrow the gap but were unsuccessful on two powerplay opportunities. With the Royals' goalie pulled in the last minute, Kamloops sealed the game with an empty net goal by Willick. Blazers 4 Royals 1, and Kamloops wins the series 4-0.

Victoria went 0/3 0.0% on the power play, while Kamloops was 0/2 00.0%. The Royals outshot the Blazers 31-25.
