TORONTO - Chris Wondolowski continued his dominance north of the border on Saturday, scoring twice for the San Jose Earthquakes in a 3-0 win against Toronto FC at BMO Field. Shea Salinas accounted for the remaining goal and Jon Busch kept his second clean sheet of the season as San Jose improved to 2-1-0.
Wondolowski struck in the ninth and 68th minutes to record his second multi-goal game against Toronto in three years. His last was a hat trick in a 3-2 win at BMO Field on Sept. 25, 2010. Wondolowski also scored in San Jose's 1-1 draw in Toronto on Aug. 27, 2011, giving the striker six Ontarian goals in three years, a career-high for the Danville native against any other MLS club.
The win upped San Jose's record to 2-0-4 all time at BMO Field.
The scoring got underway early in the ninth minute as Wondolowski headed home a cross in from Sam Cronin. The former Toronto FC midfielder completed a give-and-go with Marvin Chavez on the near sideline then swung his cross to the far post and an unmarked Wondolowski.
Salinas doubled San Jose's lead in the 57th minute, finishing past Toronto FC goalkeeper Milos Kocic with a low shot targeted at the near post. Chavez took the assist after finding Salinas with a cross from just inside the area.
San Jose capped the scoring in the 68th minute with Wondolowski doubling his haul on a close-range finish thanks to a cross in from Rafael Baca.
The match saw several individual milestones for San Jose players as goalkeeper Jon Busch made his 200th career start and midfielder Tressor Moreno made his first career MLS start. Additionally, Chavez recorded his first assist with the club.
The Earthquakes return to action on Saturday, March 31 against Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field. Kickoff is 7 p.m. PT on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, 1590 KLIV and 1370 KZSF.
