Weekly Update: Rapids Return to Denver, Look to March 10 First Kick

RAPIDS RETURN TO DENVER WITH LESS THAN TWO WEEKS TO FIRST KICK: The Colorado Rapids have returned from a preseason tournament in Hawaii, and will resume training on Wednesday ahead of the March 10 season opener against the Columbus Crew at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The Rapids have one final tune-up before the season, playing a scrimmage against Colorado School of Mines on Saturday, before First Kick. KROENKE SPORTS CHARITIES HOSTS MILE HIGH DREAMS GALA ON TUESDAY: Several Colorado Rapids players will attend this year's Mile High Dreams Gala on Tuesday, February 28 at the Pepsi Center, joining other athletes from the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche and Colorado Mammoth at the annual event, which gives fans the opportunity to interact with their favorite players, coaches, alumni, dancers and mascots. Rapids players that will be present are Andre Akpan, Quincy Amarikwa, Stew Ceus, Omar Cummings, Steven Emory, Kosuke Kimura, Ross LaBauex, Wells Thompson and Marvell Wynne. MARTIN RIVERO ARRIVES IN DENVER: The Rapids new Argentinian attacking midfielder MartÃ-n Rivero arrived in Denver on Monday morning, and will begin training with his teammates on Wednesday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The 22-year-old had spent his entire club career with Rosario Central in Argentina before joining the Rapids, and could see his first time with his new club in Saturday's scrimmage.

OMAR CUMMINGS WITH JAMAICAN NATIONAL TEAM: Rapids forward Omar Cummings has joined the Jamaican National Team for their upcoming friendly against New Zealand in Auckland this Wednesday, February 29. He departed from the Rapids on Friday after playing in Thursday's match against Yokohama FC in Hawaii, and will return to Denver at the end of the week. Cummings has 27 career caps with the Reggae Boyz and eight goals in international competition, having most recently appeared with the team against Honduras on Oct. 11.

RAPIDS HOST 2012 KICKOFF LUNCHEON ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7: The Colorado Rapids will host their annual Kickoff Luncheon on Wednesday, March 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Denver Marriott City Center. The event, from which proceeds will benefit Kroenke Sports Charities, offers fans the opportunity to meet the team and hear from club executives and Head Coach Oscar Pareja. Interested fans can purchase a table for $1,000 (nine guests and one Rapids player or coach) or an individual ticket for $100. RAPIDS GO 1-1-0 IN FIRST ANNUAL HAWAIIAN ISLANDS INVITATIONAL: The Colorado Rapids finished third in the inaugural Hawaiian Islands Invitational, held last week. They opened the tournament with a 2-1 loss against Japanese side Yokohama FC, giving up two goals early in the second half before defender Drew Moor scored his first of the preseason. In the next match, against Melbourne Heart of Australia, rookie Tony Cascio scored on a beautiful strike to earn the team a 1-0 win. RAPIDS PLAY FINAL MATCH OF PRESEASON ON SATURDAY: The Colorado Rapids have just one match remaining in their 2012 Preseason schedule: a scrimmage against the Colorado School of Mines on Saturday, March 3 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. This will be their last competitive match before kicking off the 2012 MLS season against Columbus Crew on Saturday, March 10 at 4:00 p.m. at home.
