BAKERSFIELD, February 16, 2012 - Six players scored in double figures for the Bakersfield Jam (16-14) as they come out victorious over the Austin Toros (21-10). Derrick Byars led the way for the Jam with 25 points.
Both teams were in a battle from the start to the end as the game had 17 lead changes and were tied 15 times. Austin held a four point lead (29-25) at the end of the first quarter behind Eric Dawson's 12 point quarter performance. Second quarter was a shootout for both teams as Bakersfield shot 13-of-20 from the field (65.0%) and Austin shot 12-of-17 from the field (70.6%). Byars led the way with 13 points in the second period alone making 3-of 4 from long distance. At halftime, the Jam were still down four (62-58) but came out strong in the third period putting up 36 points and shooting 7-of-12 from the three-pointer. Bakersfield took a 94-88 lead heading into the final period but with both teams fighting for every possession they had themselves dead-lock at 110-110 with 2:37 left in the game. The Jam then scored five unanswered points and never looked back resulting in their third straight victory.
Renaldo Major had 21 points while Jeremy Wise had 12 points and dished out a game-high 9 assists. Off the bench for the Jam, Osiris Eldridge finished the night with 19 points, Juan Pattillo with 14 points, and Adrian Thomas with 14 points. Mustapha Farrakhan also had a game-high 9 assists off the bench.
Eric Dawson led the Austin Toros with 24 points and 7 assists. Terrance Woodbury had 22 points off the bench and NBA D-League All-Star Justin Dentmon finished the night with 18 points and 5 assists. Leo Lyons contributed 17 points for the Toros.
Bakersfield will begin a seven game road-trip this Sunday, February 19 against the Maine Red Claws at 10 a.m. PT at the Portland Expo Building.
