Springfield Falcons News Release

The Springfield Falcons bounced back in a big way on Super Bowl Sunday scoring three third period goals on their way to a 4-2 come from behind win over the Norfolk Admirals at the MassMutual Center. With the win, the Falcons moved into third place in the Northeast Division, four points out of first place as well.

Trailing 2-1 entering the final 20 minutes, the Falcons just refused to lose this hockey game. After receiving three straight power plays to open the period, the Falcons pulled even at 11:29 of the final frame when Matt Calvert set up Patrick Cullity for his first American Hockey League goal evening the score at 2-2.

Just 30 seconds later, the Falcons took a 3-2 advantage when Maksim Mayorov knocked home his fifth marker on the year and giving Springfield a one goal edge. With the Falcons continuing to apply pressure on Norfolk goaltender Dustin Tokarski, Alexandre Giroux set up Martin St. Pierre at 15:16 of the third period on a perfectly executed two on one play that gave Springfield some insurance at 4-2.

The Falcons built a 1-0 lead in a first period that saw Springfield outshoot Norfolk 11-5. Calvert opened the scoring at 9:52 of the opening period when he one-timed a Cam Atkinson pass converting on the power play.

In the second period, the Falcons appeared to have taken a 2-0 lead when Tomas Kubalik followed up a Calvert and Ryan Garlock two on one play, but it was ruled that the Falcons interfered with Tokarski and the goal was waved off.

Momentum appeared to swing in Norfolk's favor after the disallowed goal and Pierre-Cedric Labrie evened the score at 1-1 when he tallied his 8th goal of the year at 14:40 of the middle period. Norfolk used the power play at 18:44 of the second period to take a 2-1 lead when Michel Ouellet knocked a rebound past Falcons goalie Paul Dainton.
