
Pirates Sink B-Sens, 5-2

PORTLAND M.E. - The Binghamton Senators dropped their second straight game Saturday night, losing to the Portland Pirates 5-2 at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The loss was the first in regulation for the B-Sens since falling to the Sound Tigers on Jan. 15 in Bridgeport.
Binghamton opened the scoring at 17:30 of the first period as Jack Downing scored on a feed from Dan Henningson. Rob Klinkhammer also drew an assist on the goal. The play extended Downing's goal-scoring streak to three games.
Alexandre Bolduc needed only 26 seconds into the second period to tie the game for Portland. Assists on the goal went to Brett Hextall and Matt Watkins. The Pirates took the lead 80 seconds later as Brett MacLean scored courtesy of Marc-Antoine Pouliot and Dean Arsene.
Tyler Eckford kicked the third period scoring his 5th goal of the season for Portland just 1:39 in. The power play goal, assisted by David Rundblad and Patrick O'Sullivan, would stand as the game winner.
The B-Sens went on the power play at 2:52 of the third after Brett MacLean was given a five-minute major penalty and ten-minute game misconduct for cross-checking Mark Borowiecki. David Dziurzynski was able to capitalize to pull Binghamton to within one goal. Derek Grant and Patrick Wiercioch assisted on the goal, Dziurzynski's 7th of the season.
Matt Stone put the Pirates back up by two at the 9:33 mark. Ashton Rome and Pouliot drew the assists. Portland ended the scoring with a goal by Mathieu Brodeur, assisted by Bolduc, at 13:47 of the third.
The B-Sens ended the night just 1-for-7 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
Robin Lehner made 32 saves in his first start for the B-Sens since January 20th. The loss dropped his record to 7-14-1 on the season. Justin Pogge earned the victory with 30 saves, improving to 10-8-3.
The B-Sens continue their road trip next Saturday as they head north of the border to St. John's to face the Ice Caps at 7:30 p.m. Fans can catch all the action live on "Binghamton's Classic Hits" BIG 107.5 (WBBI-FM) beginning 30 minutes before game time as Grady Whittenburg, the voice of the B-Sens, hosts the Countdown to Faceoff.
