Halifax Mooseheads News Release
General Manager Cam Russell announced this morning that 18 year old defenceman MacKenzie Weegar (94-01-02) of the Nepean Raiders has agreed to join the Mooseheads next season. The Mooseheads acquired Weegar last August from the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in exchange for a 9th Round pick in the 2012 QMJHL Entry Draft. The Huskies selected him 1st overall in the OHL Waiver Draft this summer.
Weegar, 6' 0" 185lbs, currently sits second in scoring among all defensemen in the Central Canada Tier 1 Junior Hockey League with 43 points in 42 games this season. He is ranked 160th among North America skaters by NHL Central Scouting for the upcoming 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
"We're very happy to add MacKenzie to our roster for next season" stated Russell. "He's an offensive defenceman that will fit nicely with the group we have returning on our blueline".
"I'm excited to be heading to Halifax", stated Weegar. "After evaluating my options, it was clear the Mooseheads organization was the best spot for me to continue my hockey career for the next few seasons."
