Whitecaps FC Sign Camilo Sanvezzo to New Contract

Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2011 Player of the Year and top goalscorer, Camilo Sanvezzo, has agreed to new terms with the Major League Soccer club. Per league and club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed. Combined with 'Caps striker Eric Hassli and yesterday's acquisition of Sebastien Le Toux, Whitecaps FC are currently the only team in MLS with three players who scored 10 or more goals last season.
"We're delighted to agree to new contract terms with Camilo," said Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie. "He had an outstanding first season with us and will be an important part of our squad for years to come. Camilo can play up front as a striker or as a wide attacking midfielder. He's got plenty of pace and skill, plus a real nose for goal. He's also a big threat on set-pieces in and around the opposition's penalty box."
Camilo, 23, enjoyed a memorable 2011 campaign with Whitecaps FC after signing with the MLS outfit following a successful preseason trial last spring. A native of Presidente Prudente, Brazil, Camilo's 13 goals in all competitions last term made him the club's first Player of the Year and recipient of the Domenic Mobilio Golden Boot as top goalscorer in the MLS era. This included 12 goals, tied for fifth overall in the league, and three assists in 32 MLS appearances for 2,484 minutes of action in 2011, as well as one goal in four appearances for 311 minutes of action during last year's Nutrilite Canadian Championship.
"I am very happy to sign this new contract with Whitecaps FC," said Camilo. "I am really enjoying my time in Vancouver and the support of the Whitecaps FC fans. I aim to build on all that I achieved last season and help Whitecaps FC become a top club in MLS and the CONCACAF region."
Prior to joining Whitecaps FC, Camilo had spells abroad with South Korean K-League side Gyeongnam FC and Maltese Premier League outfit Qormi FC. Camilo started his career in his native Brazil with Sport Club Corinthians Alagoano.
