Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans announced today that Buffalo Sabres captain and former Amerk Jason Pominville will appear at the next Seneca Casinos Legends Night, to be held on Thursday, Feb. 2 at The Blue Cross Arena. The NHL All-Star will attend the Amerks' game versus the Abbotsford Heat to sign autographs prior to the game and drop the ceremonial first puck. The game between the Amerks and Heat begins at 7:05 p.m.
The Seneca Casinos Legends Series is now in its third year and will feature appearances by different hockey greats at three more Amerks games this season, including Friday, Feb. 17; Friday, Mar. 9; and Friday, Mar. 30. The featured guests for these Legends Nights will be announced at a later date.
Pominville, who was named as captain of the Sabres prior to the season, currently leads the team in scoring with 47 points on 17 goals and 30 assists through 49 games. His 47 points also rank him 13th in the NHL and earned him his first selection to the All-Star Game, where he'll compete for Team Alfredsson this weekend in Ottawa. Now in his seventh season with the Sabres, Pominville has recorded 405 points (162+243) in 508 career games. He has also collected 28 points (12+16) in 45 Stanley Cup Playoff games with Buffalo. Pominville is currently on pace to record his sixth 20-goal season.
Selected by the Sabres in the second round (55th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Pominville began his professional career with the Rochester Americans in 2002-03 and went on to play in 235 games for the Amerks. He finished his Amerks career with 192 points on 96 goals and 96 assists, including a pair of 30-goal seasons. In 2005-06, Pominville began the season with Rochester and scored 19 goals in his first 18 games of the season, including a team-record tying five goals in an Oct. 21 game against Cleveland. He was recalled to the Sabres permanently on Nov. 26 and was the AHL's leading goal scorer at the time. Pominville is currently the 34th all-time leading scorer in the 56-year history of the Amerks.
