MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact will face its Canadian rival, the Toronto FC, in the semi-final of the 2012 Amway Canadian Championship.
The first game of the home and away aggregate goal series will be played at Olympic Stadium on Wednesday, May 2 while the return match will take place at BMO Field, the following week, on May 9.
The four-team tournament, which includes the Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Edmonton FC, will determine which club will lift the Voyageurs Cup and earn the right to represent Canada in the 2012-2013 CONCACAF Champions League.
The Impact won the first edition of the Canadian championship in 2008, and went on to reach the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal, winning the home leg against Mexican first division club Santos Laguna in front of 55,571 spectators at Olympic Stadium, on February 25, 2009. Toronto FC won the last three editions of the tournament.
Montreal will try to win for the first time a Canadian championship game against Toronto. The club's record against TFC is 0-5-1 since 2008.
The winner of each semi-final will face off on May 16 and 23. The team with the better record will decide which of the two games will be played at home.
Clubs were seeded based on their 2011 league results in MLS and NASL.
