Winterhawks Win 18th Straight at Home with 7-4 Victory Over Everett

The Portland Winterhawks (31-14-2-1) extended their franchise-record home winning streak to 18 games with a 7-4 win over the Everett Silvertips (10-29-1-8) Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Joe Morrow and Marcel Noebels both scored twice for Portland in the win, and were among eight Hawks with at least two points in the game.

The Silvertips opened the scoring 5:01 into the game on a goal by Zach McPhee, but the Hawks evened it at the 8:32 mark when defenseman Joe Morrow scored from the left faceoff circle to tie the game at 1-1. Everett went up 2-1 at the 11:58 mark on a goal by Ryan Harrison, but the Hawks struck back with two quick goals late in the period.

Marcel Noebels scored at the 18:32 to make it 2-2, followed by a Derrick Pouliot power play goal with just 3.2 seconds left in the period to give Portland a 3-2 lead going into the second.

The Hawks extended their lead to 4-2 when Brendan Leipsic scored 3:04 into the second on a goal set up by a great pass from Oliver Gabriel. The Silvertips got back within one on a power play goal from Harrison at the 11:31 mark to cut Portland's lead to 4-3, then tied the game at 4-4 48 seconds later on a goal by Reid Petryk.

The tie would be short-lived though, as Taylor Peters scored for Portland at the 14:51 mark as they went back on top by a score of 5-4. The Hawks then added one more before the end of the period when Noebels gathered a rebound off a Derrick Pouliot shot and scored his second of the game with 1:04 remaining in the frame to put the Hawks up 6-4 going into the third.

Portland took a three-goal lead 4:34 into the third when Morrow scored his second of the game, a power play marker, to put the Hawks up 7-4, which would stand as the final.

Brendan Burke picked up his third win of the season in net for the Winterhawks, making 29 saves on 33 Everett shots. His Everett counterpart, Kent Simpson, stopped 36 of 43 Portland shots.

The Hawks were 2-2 on the power play, and 1-2 on the penalty kill.

The Hawks are now off until Friday, when they travel to Spokane to take on the Chiefs.
