Portland Winterhawks News Release
The Portland Winterhawks have signed center Presten Kopeck, whom the team selected in the third round of the 2010 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft, 60th overall.
Kopeck, 16, is playing this season for the Lloydminster Bobcats of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, where he has seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points in 45 games.
Last season in 34 games with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Alberta Midget Hockey League (not affiliated with the WHL team of the same name) Kopeck had 11 goals and eight assists for 19 points.
"Presten is a solid two-way player who has continued to develop throughout this season. Our scouts believe he is one of the best 16-year-olds presently at the Junior A level," said Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston. "He had a very good training camp this year, and we're excited he's chosen to sign with us."
Kopeck will finish the season with Lloydminster and is expected to join the Winterhawks next season.
