HOUSTON --- The American Hockey League's Houston Aeros and Ice at the Galleria have combined efforts to launch a Super Mites beginner hockey program for kids seven years of age and younger.
"This is the first hockey program of its kind at Ice at the Galleria and helps fill an ice time void for beginners in the Galleria area," Aeros President David Burke said.
Players will get two hours of ice time per week; a total of 13 games and 13 practices; skates, jersey and hockey socks; one ticket to an Aeros game at Toyota Center; and on-ice scrimmages during intermission at a pair of Aeros games. Beginner hockey equipment kits are also available.
Practices and games run from 6:15 - 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays and 10:45-11:30 a.m. on Saturdays. The Super Mites season began on Thursday, Jan. 5, but there are still spots available. Players can register for the program by calling 713-621-1500, logging on to www.iceatthegalleria.com or by visiting the Ice at the Galleria (5015 Westheimer, Ste. 1260 (Level 1), Houston, 77056).
"We are excited to bring youth hockey to the Ice at The Galleria and pleased that the Aeros are supporting the Super Mites program," Ice at the Galleria General Manager Lisa Steck explained. "Hockey is a great way to for kids to learn teamwork and complements our existing skating programs."
Ice at the Galleria has been an icon in the Houston area for over 30 years. It is situated on Level 1 of the Galleria and is open seven days a week.
The Houston Aeros serve as the top development affiliate of the National Hockey League's Minnesota Wild and play home games at Toyota Center. Over 70 Aeros have gone on to play in the NHL. Visit Aeros.com for schedule and ticket info.
