GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Sunday assigned left wing Gustav Nyquist to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Nyquist, 22, was recalled to Detroit on Dec. 29 and recorded his first NHL point when he assisted on a goal by former Griffin Cory Emmerton last Tuesday at Dallas. He has skated in five games with the Red Wings this season, tallying one point alongside a plus-one rating and two penalty minutes.

The Halmstad, Sweden, native leads the Griffins with 30 points (9-21 - 30) in 30 games. Last Wednesday, he was selected to represent the Griffins in the AHL All-Star Classic on Jan. 29-30 in Atlantic City, N.J. He is currently tied for 19th in AHL scoring and sits third among rookies.

He rejoins the Griffins as they prepare for a pair of home games this week, versus the Houston Aeros on Wednesday and against the Texas Stars on Friday. Both games are set to start at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at griffinshockey.com.
