Team Effort Propels Tulsa to 109-96 Home Opening Win

TULSA, Okla., Dec. 3, 2011 - Marcus Lewis notched his third double-double of the season with 22 points and 12 rebounds and Jerome Dyson added 19 points and a game-high seven assists to lead the Tulsa 66ers (4-1) past the Austin Toros (2-1) by a 109-96 final Saturday night in Tulsa's home opener inside the Tulsa Convention Center.
Additionally, Dwight Buycks added a season-high 18 points and five assists to help lead the 66ers. Also scoring in double figures was Ryan Reid with 14 and Xavier Alexander with 11.
Collectively, Tulsa recorded a season-high 24 assists.
"Recording over 20 assists is our goal as a team," 66ers head coach Nate Tibbetts said. "This is the first time we have eclipsed that, and we earned it. Everyone plays better and the offense is more productive when we share the basketball."
The 66ers outrebounded the Toros by a wide 48-28 margin and outscored Austin in points in the paint by a 48-14 clip.
Tulsa, who led by as many as 19 in the contest, forced 19 Austin turnovers and added seven steals. The 66ers also recorded a 31-10 advantage in points in the paint.
The Toros were led by Justin Dentmon with a team-high 22 points. Myles McKay chipped in 18 points and Carldell Johnson posted seven assists.
The 66ers will return to the court for their third straight matchup against the Toros next Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m. CT in Austin inside Cedar Park Center.
