Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC - The Checkers will hold their annual Teddy Bear Toss game Sunday when the team hosts the Lake Erie Monsters at 5 p.m. at Time Warner Cable Arena.
Fans are encouraged to bring a new wrapped in plastic stuffed animal to the game and throw it onto the ice after the first Checkers goal. The stuffed animals will then be collected and delivered to Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital by Checkers players.
Last season, the Checkers collected 2,500 stuffed animals and have set a goal of 3,500 this season - approximately one for every child who is admitted to Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital each year.
Saturday is Horizon Eye Care Night when the Checkers host the Texas Stars at 7 p.m. and the first 2,500 fans get a free Checkers foam hockey stick and puck, courtesy of Horizon Eye Care.
Goodwill of the Southern Piedmont will also be at Saturday's game for the annual Goodwill clothing drive and fashion show. Fans who bring new or like new clothing will receive a free ticket to the Dec. 15 game, courtesy of Goodwill.
In addition to the clothing drive, the CheckMates will perform a fashion show on the ice during one of the intermissions, using stylish clothing that can be found at Goodwill.
