SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Fighting Saints were able to grind out a quality road win in Sioux City, controlling the tempo throughout en route to a 3-1 win over the Musketeers.

The Fighting Saints capitalized early in the first period, scoring immediately after going onto the powerplay. Zemgus Girgensons fired the puck home from along the goal line, beating Austin Priebe and giving the Fighting Saints a 1-0 lead. Gerard Hanson and Shane Sooth got credit for the assists. Despite outshooting the Musketeers 13-5 in the first period, the Fighting Saints would only have the 1-0 lead after the first period.

The Musketeers broke through in the second period. Sam Piazza scored, sending a puck in from the point that Gabe Antoni got a piece of, but could not stop. That would be the only scoring in the frame, as the Fighting Saints continued to pepper Priebe with shots, but could not regain the lead after two periods.

Shane Walsh gave the Fighting Saints the lead once again in the third period, pushing a puck across the goal line from the doorstep to make the score 2-1 with assists from Girgensons and Teddy Doherty. From that point, the Fighting Saints were able to hang on, limiting Sioux City to 19 shots. Girgensons added an empty net goal late for good measure, as the Saints improved to 6-2-0 on the season.

The Fighting Saints are in the midst of playing ten of eleven games on the road. They will play in Fargo tomorrow night, making their lone trip to North Dakota of the regular season. The Fighting Saints will play at home next Friday against Chicago before traveling to Omaha to take on the Lancers on Saturday night.
