Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Dubuque Fighting Saints have furthered their ties with the greater Tri-State community, establishing a partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
The three-year deal calls for a four-foot-by-six backlit sign promoting UW-Platteville on the main concourse at the Mystique Community Ice Center. The University also becomes the newest Fighting Saints season ticket-holder.
"This partnership is very beneficial for many reasons," UW-Platteville Chancellor Dennis J. Shields said. "The University has a strong recruiting base in Dubuque and the entire state of Iowa, and this helps reinforce it. Plus, the proximity of UW-Platteville to the Mystique Community Ice Center (22 miles) allows our faculty, staff and students to have yet another venue besides all those on campus to enjoy a great night out."
Fighting Saints President Dan Lehv said that the partnership reinforces the Fighting Saints as an asset for the entire Tri-State community, and he is eager to begin cultivating the relationship with UW-Platteville.
"We are thrilled to enter into this partnership with UW-Platteville," he said. "We look forward to welcoming students, faculty, alumni and guests to the rink and introducing Fighting Saints fans to the opportunities available for undergraduate and post-graduate studies at the University."
The Mystique Community Ice Center, which opened in fall 2010, is a 3,200-seat arena that hosts many other events besides being home to the Fighting Saints, including the UW-Platteville club hockey team games.
"We want UW-Platteville more visible in the Dubuque area, and the Saints are a great team with whom to be affiliated," UW-Platteville Foundation Officer Jackie Bevan said. "As soon as you come into the arena, you see our sign. It will be visible from every place in there. It's a great presence for our university."
Representatives from the Fighting Saints will be in the Markee Pioneer Student Center on Wednesday, November 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a ticket promotion for the November 4 game in Dubuque. Along with picket schedules and ticket information, the Fighting Saints will bring the 2011 Clark Cup for display.
