Youngstown Phantoms to Take Part in USHL Fall Classic

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Youngstown Phantoms will have the opportunity to showcase their talent and measure up against some of the league's best this this week when they participate in the United States Hockey League Fall Classic in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Phantoms are taking part in the event for the third straight year and will face the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Thursday, the Sioux Falls Stampede Friday and the Lincoln Stars on Saturday in front of hundreds of professional and college scouts. Representatives from all 30 NHL teams along with all NCAA Division-I schools will be among those in attendance during the four-day showcase.

On Thursday at 5:00 p.m. EST the Phantoms will open up play against the defending USHL regular season champion RoughRiders at the Tyson Center. The RoughRiders won all four meetings between the two teams last season, including a closely contested 3-2 overtime victory over the Phantoms on April 6.

The Phantoms will face off against the Stampede Friday at 6:00 p.m. at the nearby IBP Ice Arena. The Phantoms went 0-1-1 against the Stampede during the 2010-2011 campaign.

The puck drops Saturday at 5:00 p.m. when the Phantoms will wrap up their Fall Classic against the Stars back at the Tyson Center. The Phantoms swept the season series with the Stars last year with a pair of 4-3 wins, including a shootout victory February 12. Ryan Belonger scored the shootout clincher and led the Phantoms with two goals against the Stars, while Mike Ambrosia chipped in with four assists in the two games.

"We try to use this event to evaluate the team but also showcase our guys," Head Coach Anthony Noreen said. "Especially for the guys that don't have scholarships yet or are draft eligible, this is a chance for them to showcase themselves. What we tell them is 'just do what you do well.'"
