Trenton Thunder News Release
(Altoona, PA) - Greg Picart's one-out, seventh inning, solo homerun broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Altoona Curve (50-63) a 3-2 victory over the Trenton Thunder (58-56) on Sunday evening at Blair County Ballpark in Altoona, Pennsylvania. On another light night for the Thunder offense, Rob Lyerly smacked an RBI-double for the second time in as many nights. The win gives the Curve a series victory in the three-game set and sends the Thunder to their eighth loss in the team's last ten games.
The Curve scored the game's first two runs in the bottom of the third inning against Thunder starting pitcher Dellin Betances and led 2-0 in the top of the sixth. That is when the Thunder struck first in the game against Curve starter Phil Irwin. With two outs and Jose Pirela at first base, Rob Lyerly bounced a ball down the line and into the right field corner to score Pirela to get the Thunder on the scoreboard. Melky Mesa then reached on a wild throw to first, a play that also scored Lyerly to tie the score at two apiece.
That was all of the offense for the Thunder on Sunday evening, though. The Curve bullpen did not allow a hit to the Trenton offense, picking-up the game's final ten outs. Dellin Betances did not factor in the decision for the Thunder, hurling five innings and giving up two runs on six hits.
After an off day on Monday, the Thunder return home to take on the Binghamton Mets on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM from Waterfront Park. In game one of a three-game set, the Thunder will give the pearl to RHP Graham Stoneburner (1-1, 1.86), while the B-Mets will counter with RHP Collin McHugh (4-2, 3.75). The SBLI Pre-Game Show with Jay Burnham and Hank Fuerst begins at 6:45 PM. Tune-in to the game on 91.3 WTSR and online at trentonthunder.com.
Tuesday at Waterfront Park is another Super Value Tuesday, featuring $1 Hot Dogs and Kids Eat Free courtesy of On the Border, and a KRAFT Singles Tuesday Night Tickets.
