Aeros Erupt For 10 Runs, Take Rubber Match From Rock Cats

AKRON, OH - The Akron Aeros banged out 13 hits and scored 10 runs to win the rubber match of a three-game series against the New Britain Rock Cats 10-2 Sunday at Canal Park.

Right-handed pitcher Austin Adams recorded the win for Akron tossing 6.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and striking out five while walking one.

Right-hander Bobby Lanigan suffered the loss for New Britain (56-58) lasting five innings, giving up seven earned runs on nine hits, walking two and striking out two.

The Aeros (60-55) jumped in front 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning on a Michel Hernandez RBI single.

Akron added to their lead the next inning. Kyle Bellows and Nick Weglarz rapped back-to-back singles to open the frame. John Drennen tripled them home to make it 3-0. Karexon Sanchez followed with an RBI sacrifice fly scoring Drennen and increasing the lead to 4-0.

The teams traded single runs in the fourth inning before Akron erupted for two runs in bottom of the fifth inning and three more in the sixth as they went on to the win.

The Aeros are off on Monday and will begin a six-game road trip on Tuesday. Akron will give the ball to left-handed pitcher Matt Packer, who is 5-10 with a 4.38 ERA in 2011. He will face right-handed pitcher Charlie Haeger, who is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA this season. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. The game can be heard on Fox Sports 1350 AM or online at sportsradio1350.com.
