Suppan and Chasers Shut Down OKC

Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Oklahoma City, OK - Jeff Suppan and Kevin Pucetas combined on a six-hitter as Omaha blanked Oklahoma City, 2-0,

Monday night in the third of a four-game set at Bricktown Ballpark. The Storm Chasers won their fourth straight game to improve to 60-49 and maintain their five game lead in the American Conference North Division over Memphis, which won on a walk-off grand slam by Shane Robinson.

The RedHawks put runners at first and second with nobody out in the first but couldn't score after Suppan got J.R. Towles to ground out, struck out Collin Delome and retired Anderson Hernandez on a fly ball. The Storm Chasers then struck for the game's only two runs in the second inning to furnish the veteran right-hander with all the offense he would need.

Jarrod Dyson's fielder's choice grounder plated Kila Ka'aihue on a play in which OKC starter Lucas Harrell was ejected from the game after arguing to no avail that he had tagged the designated hitter before he reached the plate. Johnny Giavotella added a sacrifice fly to stake the visitors to a 2-0 edge after the first or second inning for a third straight game.

Suppan allowed five hits, walked four, fanned five and was the beneficiary of three double plays turned behind him. He recorded 13 ground ball outs to register his eighth victory in nine decisions since losing to the RedHawks at home on May 6.

Pucetas worked around a leadoff double in the eighth and a leadoff walk in the ninth to record his first save of the season and first since 2007 while pitching in the San Francisco Giants organization.

The series wraps up Tuesday night with Omaha right-hander Luis Mendoza taking the mound against OKC righty Nelson Figueroa. Coverage of the game begins at 6:45 p.m. and can be heard locally on KOIL AM 1180 and online at omahastormchasers.com.
