Lake Erie Crushers News Release
O'FALLON, MO. - The River City Rascals held the Lake Erie to a run on nine base hits on Saturday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark, as the Crushers saw their three game winning streak come to an end, in a 5-1 loss to the Rascals.
For the Crushers, (21-25) the loss was the first over their first four games of their current road trip, while the win for River City (32-14) was just their third against the Crushers this season.
The Lake Erie offense was silent over the first four three innings of the contest, as they were held to just one hit during that stretch. River City snapped a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning. Joash Broadin started the inning with a double, and scored moments later on a two-bagger from Doug Sanders. Sanders scored later in the second on a sacrifice fly from Stephen Holdren.
The Crushers scored their lone run of the evening in the top of the fourth inning to cut the 2-0 deficit in half. Andrew Davis stroked his second of four base hits on the night with one out, and was followed by Kellen Kulbacki's base knock. Davis scored moments later on Joel Collins's single to left field.
River City answered with a single run in the fourth, and a pair of runs in the fifth. Danny Sawyer belted a one out single in the fourth, and came home on Broadin's second double of the contest. In the fifth, Chad Maddox began the inning with a walk, and scored on a double from Holdren, before Jareck West hit a solo homer to bring in the final run of the game.
Josh Lowey (4-2) beat the Crushers for the second time in a row. He went seven and two-thirds, allowing a run on eight hits, with a walk and a pair of strikeouts. He defeated the Crushers in his last start back on July 4, after tossing six scoreless innings in Avon. Derrick Miramontes (8) retired four out of the five batters he faced, going an inning and a third to score the save.
Andrew Weeks (3-3) was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs on 10 hits over four and two-thirds. Travis Risser kept the Rascals off the board the rest of the way, tossing three and a third scoreless innings of relief.
Davis led the way for the Crushers, pounding out four singles in a 4-for-4 performance to bring his on base streak to 17 games. Kellen Kulbacki went 2-for-4, extending his hitting streak to 13 games and his on base streak to 19, while Jodam Rivera went 1-for-5, marking the 13th consecutive game that he has reached.
