Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Greenville Drive 1-0 Friday night at State Mutual Stadium before a crowd of 4,038.The Braves have now won four straight and go for the series sweep tomorrow afternoon.
In the bottom of the fourth Matt Weaver led off the inning with a single to left and two outs later, with the bases loaded, Tommy La Stella delivered an RBI single up the middle to score Weaver from third. After Weaver scored Kyle Rose was thrown out trying to score from second and the Drive escaped the inning giving up only one run.
The one run would be all the Braves pitchers would need as they shut out Greenville and allowed only five hits over the course of the game. Ryan Weber was sharp in his first outing since being activated from the disabled list going two innings and allowing one hit with one strikeout. Robert Roth made his debut for Rome when he relieved Weber in the third inning and gave the Braves two solid innings with only one hit and two strikeouts. Roth then turned the game over to Chasen Shreve in the fifth who baffled Drive hitters with six strikeouts over three and two thirds innings. Shreve allowed only two hits until he handed off the baton for the final time to recent draftee Gus Schlosser. Schlosser got the last four outs of the game with three strikeouts himself and finished off the all around excellent pitching performance by the Braves.
Chasen Shreve (2-4) earns the win for Rome and Tyler Wilson (2-1) takes the loss for Greenville. Gus Schlosser (2) earns the save.
Both teams return to the field tomorrow at 2pm for the finale of the four game series. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
