SAVANNAH, GA - A night after banging out a season-high 18 hits, the Savannah Sand Gnats were held to just three knocks in a 5-0 loss to the Greensboro Grasshoppers Saturday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Gnats (13-4/52-34) still hold the South Atlantic League's best record.

The Grasshoppers (8-9/48-39) scored three runs against starter Yohan Almonte, who took the loss. The ‘Hoppers scored the game's first run in the second inning. Greensboro then used three doubles, one each from SS Daniel Black, LF Daniel Wooster and 2B Noah Perio to score two runs in the fourth inning for a 3-0 advantage. Almonte gave up three runs on seven hits and three walks, but struck out a personal season-high six batters.

Greensboro added two unearned runs in the sixth against reliever Guillaume Leduc.

The Gnats' offense drew eight walks and had runners aboard in seven of the game's nine innings, but was 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. DH Darrell Ceciliani was 1-for-2 and drew two walks while hitting in the number 3 spot in the batting order for the second time in 2011.

First pitch start was delayed by 1:03 by thunderstorms above Historic Grayson Stadium.

The Gnats and Grasshoppers finish their four-game series Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 2:05 pm. The Gnats will send RHP Ryan Fraser (6-5, 3.30) to the mound against RHP Zachary Neal (5-6, 4.63). Gates open at 1pm. The radio broadcast on News/Talk 630 and sandgnats.com will begin at 1:50 pm.
