Hagerstown Suns News Release

Greensboro, NC- The Hagerstown Suns (2-0, 42-30) were hoisted over the Greensboro Grasshoppers (0-2, 40-32) on the strength of terrific starting pitching RHP Taylor Jordan and a trio of long balls from SS Jason Martinson, RF Kevin Keyes, and C David Freitas to triumph 7-4 on Friday night at NewBridge Bank park.

Jordan (8-3), the winning pitcher, went a season-long 7.0 innings and surrendered two earned runs on five hits, while walking one and fanning eight.

The Suns received back-to-back home runs for the second time this season from the exact same tandem when Martinson and Keyes ripped solo jacks in the 2nd inning over the right center and dead center field barriers respectively off Greensboro RHP Jheyson Manzueta (2-6), the losing pitcher of record. Martinson ripped his seventh four-bagger and Keyes lined his fifth homer this season.

Manzueta surrendered six earned runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings, his shortest outing of the season.

In the 3rd frame, Hagerstown brought eight men to the plate and collected four earned runs on back-to-back doubles from 2B Adrian Sanchez and CF Bryce Harper, before an RBI single from Freitas. An errant throw on a checkdown of Harper at third base from C Wilfredo Gimenez scored the Suns' fourth run. Freitas touched home on a wild offering from Manzueta. Then, LF Wade Moore ripped an RBI double off the right center field wall to summon in Martinson, who was hit by a pitch.

The Grasshoppers leaped on the board with a single run in the 4th frame on an RBI single by DH Aaron Dudley into right field, scoring 1B Mark Canha, who was hit by a pitch.

The Suns piled on another run of insurance in the 5th inning when Freitas after hitting a 390 foot foul ball, launched his ninth home run of the season onto the grassy hill in the back of the left field fence as part of a 2-for-5, two-RBI contest.

The 'hoppers tallied one run after stretch time in the 7th stanza as CF Isaac Galloway doubled in the two-base knock of RF James Wooster.

Dudley homered off RHP Dean Weaver in the 9th inning with one on, but it was too little, too late for the home club, who has now dropped the first two games of the campaign's second half.

The Suns will be greeted by the Grasshoppers for a 7:05pm first pitch on Saturday night. The radio flagship of the Hagerstown Suns, WJEJ AM 1240, will provide wall-to-wall radio coverage beginning with a 6:50pm Break Away 2 Sports Lounge Pre-game Show. The Suns will summon LHP Sammy Solis (1-0, 3.62) to face Greensboro RHP Zach Neal (4-4, 3.98).
