MOOSIC, Pa. -- Starter Adam Warren allowed just one run on three singles over eight innings, while first baseman Jorge Vasquez provided all the runs the Yankees would need with his International League leading 17th home run of the season in the first inning as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre gained the series split with a 5-1 victory over the Indianapolis Indians on Tuesday morning at PNC Field.

With the loss Indianapolis falls to 20-27 on the season, while the Yankees improve their record to 23-20 with the victory. The win also gives Scranton the 2-2 series split with the two teams set to face off again in a four-game series at Victory Field beginning on Memorial Day (Monday, May 30) at 6:05 p.m.

After fellow starter David Phelps held the Tribe to just one run over 7.1 innings on Monday evening, Warren (8.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO) went an Indians' opponent season long eight innings, surrendering just three singles while striking out four on Tuesday morning. The Yankees' right hander, who entered the contest with one of the highest walk totals in the IL, gave up just one walk on his way to his third victory of the season.

Following Warren's outstanding outing, Scranton reliever Amauri Sanit (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 SO) pitched a scoreless ninth to give the Yankees the victory. The scoreless outing for Sanit, completed an excellent series for the Yankees bullpen, who over the four games saw six different relievers combine to allow just one run on five hits over 8.2 innings of relief.

The Scranton offense also maintained a series trend of early inning scoring, as they plated two runs in the first to finish the series with eight of their 14 runs scored in either the first or second inning. It was the IL's current top slugger in Vasquez, that powered the Yankees out to the early lead as following a one out single by SS Ramiro Pena in the first, the right handed slugger belted a ball over the left field fence for his International League leading 17th longball.

The Indians would cut the deficit in half with a single score in the fourth as CF Gorkys Hernadez led off with a base hit, stole second, moved to third on a single by RF John Bowker and came plateward on a sacrifice fly from 1B Matt Hague. The stolen base for Hernandez was his first since May 3rd and ties him LF Alex Presley for the team lead with 11, while the RBI for Hague extended his team best total to 27.

However, Vasquez would give Scranton the two-run advantage back in the sixth, when he drew a one out walk, moved to second on a wild pitch, trotted to third on a single by LF Justin Maxwell and came home on a sacrifice fly by 3B Brandon Laird. The base on balls was one of two on the morning for Vasquez (1-for-2, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB), who reached base three times and improved his already IL best home run, RBI, total bases and slugging percentage totals with the effort.

Scranton would tack on two more scores to put the game well out of reach in the eighth as singles by Laird and 2B Kevin Russo plated DH Jesus Montero and Maxwell, who reached on base hits of their own earlier in the frame. With their eighth inning singles, Maxwell (2-for-4, 1 R) and Russo (2-for-4, 1 RBI) each posted multi-hit efforts, while Vasquez and Laird (1-for-3, 2 RBI) each knocked in multiple runs in the contest.

Bowker (2-for-4) posted the only multi-hit effort for the Tribe as he collected two of their four hits, while 2B Josh Harrison saw his seven game hitting streak come to an end with an 0-for-4 effort at the plate.

Indians' starter Sean Gallagher (6.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO) suffered the loss to fall to 1-7 after allowing three runs on five hits over six innings of work. Following Gallagher, reliever Blaine Boyer (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 SO) tossed an inning of scoreless relief, while left hander Daniel Moskos (1.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 SO) allowed two runs on four hits in his frame of work out of the Tribe bullpen.

Following an off day Indianapolis will head to Pawtucket for a four-game series, beginning on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Rudy Owens is expected to get the start in the series opener for the Indians, while former Tribe hurler Brandon Duckworth is the probable starter for the PawSox.

The contest will be carried on WNDE 1260 AM, WNDE.com and via iheartradio, a mobile application for iPhone, Blackberry and Android phones with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley on the call. The pre-game show begins at 6:45 p.m.
